Cup O' Joes - Anniversary Blend No. 23
The smoking pipe experience is enhanced by the circumstances. Although I smoked this one while experiencing Vikings, no matter what circumstances this blend is always great, complex and complete. The smell right out of the thin is a mix of sweet raisins and nuts. In my case for every smoke I use less than one krumble and it lasts for at least one hour of joy. It almost came ready to smoke, I left it to rest for maybe five minutes and it was perfect. There was no relight needed. Creamy dry fruits, if something like that exists. Sweet and sour but not not fruity acid. The whole smoking journey is an experience of complexity of flavors, running from sweets, creamy, woody, leathery, but never boring nor cloying. Sometimes it leaves a pleasant sour taste on the palate, the after taste is very pleasant but subtle and the room note is likable since it reminds of a forest just quite when it starts to rain. Iwan Ries - Three star blue
The smell from the pouch is sweet like raisins. I smoked this one several times. I am ambivalent. During the couple of early times the taste was kind of metallic and astringent, the topping was very sweet and way too noticeable,not really pleasant. I’m writing this review when tobacco is approximately four years old. This is a key element for letting all the flavors emerge. During this last time all the flavours were more balanced and the metallic aroma disappeared. It was pleasant, although the topping is still too strong. It is not a complex tobacco, very sweet and creamy and although it says it contains perique it was hardly noticeable. This time I only needed one match and it burned evenly. I would recommend a very slow smoke in order to appreciate its flavours. Another idea to let the sweetness be balanced is to marinate it with dark chocolate at least 70%. The room note is very pleasant like fermented plums. Humito que llegó después de una buena mezcla dj, muy ecléctica. Su sabor puro y definido me regresa los pies a la tierra. Un suave deleite desde el encendido. Se siente una presencia de roble y el ron. Los tostados con tonos metálicos emergen al segundo tercio y acompañan hasta el final. El tiro es levemente duro lo que nos hace ir con calma y haciendo que la fumada sea larga, nos acompaña una ceniza blanca y un quemado uniforme. Iwan Ries - Three Star Banner-Lite
I smoked this one while experiencing Lovecraft´s Color Out of Space (an illustrated version), I´m not sure how this match worked out based on the bitterness of this Lovecraft´s story. The smell from the bag is kind of nutty, raisiny, sweet but with no definable specific aroma, which for my personal view is great since it adds bouquet exploration. The first flavours to appear, when smoked, would be if there is something like raisin butter, like a bowl of milk with granola and raisins. For the last third the wooden flavour takes over. I needed several religths, maybe I should have let the tobacco rest a while before loading the bowl. The room note is super pleasant and light. Being an aromatic but with no flavour added is an adventure of light flavors and aromas. Since this tobacco is light it would be a good choice for an everyday smoke, but definitely Lovecraft and aromatics are not a good match. Mac Baren - Original Choice
I'm writing this one while smoking it during a sunday morning. It was a great kind of “dessert” for breakfast. For this COVID19 times it is a “merry smoke”, since it has a little nicotine and brings a sense of peace and silence because of its buttery caramel flavours. This blend is not strong, it is not sweet, but it is creamy with some wooden maple honey flavours. The burley and cavendish adds mild but noticeable an almost butter kind of taste. I smoked it when it was dry and I did not humidify it, for this kind of tobacco I feel it was a good idea since normally it is a wet smoke probably this was the reason why I did not need any relighting. It burns evenly during the whole time. Almost no tongue bite.The after taste is pleasant and fresh being with me for a long time without feeling cloying. I have been a pipe smoker for more than 5 years now, and, thanks to the universe I still consider myself a beginner, and I sincerely hope I never quit being a beginner, so I can be open to discovering new, fresh and diverse flavours and experiences. I was reading while smoking this blend, the complexity of Jung and the tobacco forced me to stop and finish each one on its own. Since it has no flavouring added the smoking process is a journey. I consider this to be a transition blend from aromatic to english. While in Chicago I got the chance to visit Iwan Ries and try this one for the first time on a cob corn pipe and it got me for its smooth taste, although being a non aromatic. A couple of relightings where needed, so I would recommend to let the tobacco dry for a few minutes before smoking it. Reviewing Planta - Danish Black Vanilla
It was a pleasant and light smoke, although because of it sweetness it could get cloying. Even though most of the negative reviews focused about the chemical vanilla flavoring, I consider a pretty balanced blend and its flavoring made with a fine vanilla extract has its quite bitter aftertaste which might not be pleasant, but that is the way vanilla extract taste like. Very easy to light, it burns evenly and maintains its flavour from beginning to end. It comes with the right humidity so you can smoke it right the way.
