Latin American International Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction LATAM SEC 2024
The first Latin American International Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction (LATAM-SEC-2024) was hosted by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador in March 2024 in Quito, Ecuador. The conference theme: "Leading Construction Technology Systems for Today's Environmental and Social Crises."
Our first contact with ISEC Society started while publishing articles for the First European and Mediterranean Structural Engineering and Construction Conference (EURO MED SEC) held in Turkey in 2016. A constant participation in ISEC9-10-, ISEC 10, EUROMED SEC1- and ASEA SEC conferences strengthen the bond and in 2019 the process for the cooperation ISEC Society and PUCE began, due to COVID the conference was delayed and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by our Rector Fernando Ponce on March 16, 2023. Setting the dates for the conference for March 4-8 2024 when The First Latin American Structural Engineering and construction conference took place.

All the articles underwent a rigorous two-stage peer-review process, abstract review and the full paper review. The copy editing and similarity check process began once the papers were approved and paid for. Once all papers were printer-ready and published in ISEC PRESS, they were submitted to CrossRef then to Scopus, and after that to ClockSS with a total of 86 registrars, 62 in-person and 13 online presenters, and 11 publishing without attending totaling 95 published articles with over 254 authors and co-authors. With representation of 5 continents, 15 countries. A total of 68% Latin American, 17% USA, and 15% rest of the world.
It was an opportunity to learn about what is being developed in the region and around the world while meeting new people! The conference is devoted to scientific exchanges among participants and is intended to maximize interactions while also encouraging networking and future collaborations. The Conference aimed to bring together current academic research and development studies and initiatives, as well as industrial practices in all aspects of structural engineering and construction.
The conference was completely hybrid. Online and on site presentations, with two days of parallel technical sessions with a total of 70 presentations and two keynote speakers. Providing an opportunity for discussion points on the latest research methods and practices being conducted globally. Topics covered in the proceedings are in the multidisciplinary area of Civil Engineering, including legal affairs and contracting, construction technology and innovation, facilities and asset management, project management and risk analysis, safety and quality, territorial planning and development, analysis and design of structural Paragraph. THANKS
Social crisis and a pandemic were the significant challenges to finally host the first Latin American Structural Engineering and Construction Conference in Quito, Ecuador.
With the experience of the ISEC Society with international conferences and the support of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, the School of Architecture, Design and Arts, the School of Engineering, and the universities Research Department, it has been possible to share research results and experiences while having a taste of Ecuador's culture, in the hopes of more connections and interactions in the region and worldwide through Leading Construction Technology Systems for Today's Environmental and Social Crises, the conference theme.
Every element, image, and product were focused on the conference theme. The conference bags were made by “Centro una Familia de Familias," an NGO that shares social and environmental responsibility. “We respect the dignity of children and families. We do not seek or support charity for working children. Instead, we seek to develop skills and create opportunities.”
Thank you to all authors, local committee and volunteers who made the event LATAM SEC 2024 possible. We look forward to LATAM SEC 2 , which will be hosted by PUCE in 2026 and may be held on the Galapagos Islands.
